Exciting Insights on the Women of Golf

The sport of golf dates back to the Ancient Rome. However, it is still unsure when women first picked up the sport. As early as 1552, there were already known women who played this game. One of them is Mary, the Queen of Scots. According to legend, Mary coined the term caddie through the practice of calling her helper cadets. Moreover, the first women's golf club was established in 1867.

As time passed, many golfers were quick to adapt the popularity of golf with women. In line with this, women golf associations and tournaments that have encouraged females to play golf have started appearing in the late 1800s. One of the first golf championships designed for ladies was the US Women's Amateur competition that was held in New York. The women of golf soon had various tournaments and associations to back them. Accordingly, these associations oversaw the growing number of events. Some of these golf events in the recent time were featured worldwide, involving very huge amount of prizes.

However, in the past, many female golfers suffered discrimination and ridicule. Thanks to the bravery and spirit of many early female golfers, young women golfers today are becoming more successful. Today, professional women golfers have been placing their names on personalised tees and have been endorsing products. More significantly, these athletes have been acquiring regular seven-digit purses in their tournaments. At present, there are professional associations for women in the US, Europe, Korea and Japan. All in all, the sport of golf continues to improve and gain popularity across the globe.
